Description

Looking for a kit of rope?

Primal Desires 6mm Hemp Shibari Rope made of 3 strands of high quality 100% flax fibre yarns. This rope is strong and durable being heat and flame resistant with low stretch, soft feel and a breaking strength of 285Kg. It is an ideal rope for the more experienced rope enthusiast who prefers to work with natural fibre rope. Hemp rope has been used by trades, boats, climbers and other sports and fitness people for centuries due to the unique qualities the rope possesses.

The standard finish on rope ends is for the tips to be knotted however the ends can also be whipped with a polyester thread in a selection of colours to differentiate lengths easily. For conditioning, we normally use Australian Hemp Seed Oil which is a carrier grade oil (no CBD or THC) however you may choose to use Camelia Oil or Jojoba Oil which are also widely used in shibari for rope conditioning.

Please Note: All images of the rope shown are in an unconditioned state and rope conditioning will generally darken the rope to varying degrees as it soaks in oil and the “flurries” are removed. The darkness and colour will vary with the type of oil used. When possible, we will endeavour to increase the gallery with conditioned rope images and we have samples of conditioned rope on hand at markets and events we attend where the rope is being sold.

All rope and rope kits are made to order. Every effort is made to process orders as quickly as possible to the highest standard. Rope has been deliberately supplied conditioned lightly in the chosen oil to allow for different riggers to use their own methods of conditioning the ropes. Primal Desires will supply their own example of how rope is conditioned for use for those wishing to know and or to use for their own processes however no liability can be assumed by Primal Desires for the results any given conditioning process will have on the rope.

General Care Info

Rope Conditioning

Rope condition will vary over time subject to the amount of use, conditioning process and general care given with the rope. We strongly recommend checking and conditioning your rope as often as necessary with checks done before and after use, especially when used for suspension. Ropes will narrow in diameter slightly with initial conditioning and use. Typically, running the rope repeatedly back and forward through a carabiner with a round edge will help to remove any "flurries" that occur with natural fibre rope. Alternatively, you can hang the rope with weights at the bottom to remove any kinks or bends that maybe present and run a flame over the rope so as not to burn the rope itself but still burn off any of the "flurries". Please take care when working with fire in a well aerated space away from flammables and examine the rope every couple of passes to ensure no damage is done to the rope. Using a flame is a quick method however too much flame will quickly damage the rope and it will need to be replaced. After removing the flurries, it is recommended to use a clean cotton rag or cloth lightly soaked with some oil and run the rope through the oiled cloth repeatedly ensuring even coverage. Use more oil for a "wetter rope" which is move more freely however avoid using too much oil that you can see it dripping off the rope as this will take a long time for the fibres to absorb and may not absorb all of the oil which will result in oil being left on your hands, clothes and your intended rope muse/bunny. Leave the rope to hang for several hours so that the oil can soak into the fibres and check. If you are comfortable it is dry enough, it can be taken down and placed into hanks ready for use.

Rope Care

Always check the rope before and after use for damage especially when used over sharp or rough edges or in conjunction with other implements such as candles, knives, scissors and even long finger nails. If you are using the flame method for conditioning, be extra careful with any damaged fibres as this will render the rope useless for any kind of suspension work. Heavier loads and bodies will put a greater strain on the rope, so it is always recommended to check the rope before and after use for suspension and preferably also for other rope work.
